How many of you guys are using separate powermeter instead of trainers powermeter?, i do that every now and then. Today i have a plan to compare power readings between Quarq DZero and Drivo 2 trainer when i do my todays Trainerroad workout.

I only have a dumb trainer - so I always use my P2 Pedals for Power measurement, inddor and out.

I've got the Kickr v1 (Andy's old one) and have found that until it is warmed up it over-reports the power a fair bit. Once warmed, it seems pretty accurate compared to my vectors.

Hence I always use my vectors now. Unfortunately the power matching doesn't work well with SF, so I can't use ERG mode with them.

To be honest when I was doing my due diligence before buying my first power meter the Garmin vectors got very mixed reviews regarding power accuracy too. That’s not a dig at you Pete. Like bridgy says I have a rough idea about people from riding with them in the real world and it’s a good marker. But I think it highlights how tough it’ll be to make online cycling a balanced playing field for e sports. My turbo bike is built around a neo2T system. Maybe that will be next to be under the microscope. I don’t think any turbo / power meter is beyond questioning. I know my neo 1 read lower than both of my other power meters (power2max and quartz)

People in the same room using the same turbo? The neo seems to be the benchmark, but I’ve read that different neo’s give different power outputs 🤷‍♂️

Maybe you’re right bridgy in that if they do want E racing to become a big thing they’ll have to try as hard as possible to level the playing field. But I’m not sure if it’ll entirely filter down because it’ll still require everyone to have the same turbo (I assume)

I have a Elite Drivo 2 trainer what simulate 24% gradients, so it offers all what Zwift gives and even more. That's why i satisfied 70%-75% settings when i ride virtual hills. Maximum power output is 3600w and i have use only quarter of that .

Its for smart trainers to alter the gearing. So example a 20% climb would require me to use a 34chainring and a 36t cass. by using the slider in Zwift I can use a 53t chainring and a 18t cass. It makes no difference to power, you still have to make the power by spinning and force.

My training session is now temporary be delayed. Main water pipeline is leaking in this area so need to wait permission to use shower.
I completely agree. Racing on Zwift is a bit of fun but if anyone wants a real racing experience then for the foreseeable future it’ll need to be a real (outdoor) race!
I don't have experience about racing indoor and outdoor but in a Finnish cycling forum somebody said that when you are racing irl and you are in a big group drafting is easier irl than on Zwift. But anyway racing on Zwift and these mass events are worthy to ride.

Pete, you had to keep using v1 of the software to get the advantage. Wahoo responded to the inaccuracy in power with a firmware or software update. Pretty sure Andy updated it.
Some racers apparently choose to race on the early firmware...
Later kickr models are recognised as being much more accurate.

Id always kept my Kickr upto date with firmware. I wasnt aware until after I got my Neo that it took the V1 Kickr had a temperature power issue. I read on one of the forums where a users collected temperature and power data from his setup and compared it to temp compensated power meter. I understand later Kickrs had the compensation circuitry added.
