Bet you can feel the difference between that and the beast eh:thumbsup:
Then some!
I thought I'd miss the full suss but tbh, I don't. Makes for a lighter ride, as well as the alloy frame instead of steel
It's surprisingly manoeuvrable for a 29er. Even riding on the stock tyres it was impressive, so some nice MTB tyres for my wood forays and I'll be everywhere I shouldn't be

When I had my MTB I had Michelin XC Dry on and found them spot on for woodland riding and fast for when on the road without the knobbly rumble, pretty cheap too
It came with stock Specialized Fast Trak Sport's on it and my Saracen was running Conti Double Fighter II's.
I've found the Specialized to be the better tyre for gripping but it runs lovely on the cycle paths as well, result!
I may invest in a different pair for the dry, hot summer we're expecting

Unexpected early finish today so got the bike out for a joy ride along the TPT, after this morning's frosty start it's turned into a really nice day up in the civilised north :sun:

Not been on my full loop for a good while as it's usually really muddy on stretches of it, today I thought I'd go see if it was drying up any so ended up doing a nice 20 miler round trip.

Typical bike pose beside the river

Yes it was as bad as I was expecting, this is why I 'need' a mtb

Checked out @skudupnorth's car park, sadly as I expected his amateur job just hasn't stood up to the test of time, should have stuck to using his chainsaw

Much drier on the other side of the trail

Took a turn around my oft ridden loop this morning to see how the flooding in the Severn Valley was proceeding. It's going down but my favourite lanes along the Hams are still under. They went under before Christmas. I've never known the flooding to hang around so long. Sooo I had to retrace a bit and go over Wickridge Street. I checked the flood levels again at Chaceley and it was clear there. Then on the run back the rain kicked off again. Got a bit wet but it was all good. Well when is riding your bike not good?

Day 2 of my Lake District holiday with @Rickshaw Phil

We set off in lovely :sun:today with destination being Elterwater and Hodge Close.

We took the road down into Coniston, cruising at a nice 20mph and then began the long steep climb up Hawkshead Hill, via the back road. Having done this before I knew how hard it is (402 ft of climbing in 1 & 1/2 miles) but set myself the goal of getting to the top without stopping and I made it :hyper: including passing a chap pushing his bike up the steep bit!

It was then down through the gorgeous scenery to barngates, passing the drunken duck inn, no stop for beer today though as too early :stop:.

We continued dropping down to skelwith bridge and then climbed through the off road cycle route to arrive in the valley by elterwater. There were loads of people walking down the path and most were very cheery and said hello, other then a snooty couple who turned their noses up at the bikes!

One couple said to us "you won't stay nice and clean like that for long" which we weren't quite sure what they were getting at.......until along the "gravel" path we came to a couple of deep muddy wet bits. I negotiated the 1st one quite well but in the next one I hit a deep hole and came to a halt and had to put my foot down into shin deep mud!!! :cursing: Yuck!!!

Anyway, 1/2 mile down the path I knew we were stopping for beer at the Britannia inn in elterwater village and so that kept me going. A lovely pint of langdale gold was supped in the sun on their patio, with a bowl of chips^_^

We then decided to head up the langdales as far as chapel stile for a quick mooch and then it was a brilliant 25mph run back downhill to elterwater (in a 20 mph zone )

Next we had a big climb up the start of the road towards hardknott pass, but luckily we were turning off and heading up some fairly steep gravel paths to hodge close. There is a very deep slate quarry up there and it is simply like a different world. It reminds me of Lord of the rings film scenery.

Thankfully that was the end of most of the climbing and it was a nice downhill stretch into coniston. As it was such a nice day we headed down to the lake and had a nice cappuccino at the bluebird cafe before arriving back at the cottage.

20.9 miles at 8.3mph avg with 1875ft of climbing

Just a ride over to Wythenshawe hospital today to my severe asthma appointment! Wouldn't want to be normal in the slightest!
Nice frosty but sunny start and pretty much stayed sunny all day. Only real problems were that I needed winter kit for the first hour before it warmed up, after that summer kit would have been more appropriate at 14C! Anyhow, lovely ride out and nice ride back, only I hadn't taken into account that Tatton Park is closed on Monday's and had routed my journey home through there with the hopes for a hot drink but it was not to be sadly  that will have to wait for another day. 50 miles covered... with a decent for me average speed (especially given the need for 2 heavy locks for securing the bike in a less than secure location) and a nice journey home as well. Regretfully the outcome of the appointment is that I have to go in as a day patient at the end of the month but that can't be helped
