First time out in a while, but managed to get out today for a very pleasant 14 miles on the new bike!
I took the usual route to the Helix via the cycle paths and took a couple of pics of the bike there.
Isn't she gorgeous!
Such a glorious day at Helix Park!
As it was so nice I decided to head to the woods and try the bike out on a little light trail work
(heeding my doctors advice not to fall off).
The tyres coped really well - I had thought about changing them but was waiting until I had given them a proper run.
They roll lovely (could be the fact it's a 29er as well) and coped with gravel, muddy puddles and didn't bottom out on some mud I hit, unlike my Conti's tend to do!
The handling was responsive and easier to control than I thought it would be. I'm still a little wobbly at times but it'll take time for me to get a feel for the bike. I did find it a little bumpy after being used to the full suspension, but lifting my
fat butt off the saddle did the trick for the rougher ground.
I also adjusted the seat height again (another inch up) and it seems to be about right now.
By the end of the run I had the gears/brakes in hand...they are positioned differently to the Saracen and I kept reaching for the brakes when I wanted to change gears! Being gentle isn't my forte but I found that I needed to be, or risk an off...boy those hydraulic brakes are good!
On the way back I got up the hill at the cemetery in one go, no faster than usual, but at least I'm not getting off and walking!
I think I will be changing the saddle but I'm going to give it another few rides before I decide.
I gave her a nice wash down and she is back in the hall (no husband dear, I will NOT put her in the shed
).
I also bought cycle insurance today, to cover theft, accidental or malicious damage. I just need one of their approved locks now.
All in all, I am delighted with the Specialized and can't wait for the next ride - and that is what it's all about!
