Just 25 miles today as we had guests so I nipped out while they were walking round a bit of Rutland Water. I thought I would give a flavour of the roads around these parts in winter, a couple of them reflect the road sign in the foreground. Like many have reported the wind was good and strong and made for some tough climbs, great fun on the 50t, pity dr_pink was otherwise engaged:smile:

Took the MTB out this afternoon to ride some of South Gloucestershire's very muddy bridlepaths

EDIT : I've now dried out & washed my kit, got hit by a massive hailstorm within 500 metres of my house, had to take shelter behind a Premier Inn/Beefeater sign ! The roads literally filled with water/hail  it certainly slowed the traffic down !

It certainly came down didn't it?

When I heard that storm against our roof/windows I looked out the window and thanked my lucky stars that I'd done my ride first thing in the morning. Nothing like variable weather to make cycling "interesting"...

Had a ride out to High Beech in Epping Forest this morning. It's only ten miles each way. I was having a cup of tea at High Beech and congratulating myself on beating the weather forecast by staying dry when the weather forecast decided to have the last laugh and it started raining. Fortunately I had a waterproof top in my pack so I got home with a dry top half and a wet bottom half. Oh, and my Brooks saddle hasn't changed shape

Headed out this morning on the MTB in the wind and rain. 9 miles in (and just before a great off-road part) had my second puncture and had to abandon and call Mrs Moose to come and rescue me

About 10 maybe slightly more miles on @dan_bo's Llandegla ride. We met at the car park where Kestevan, Satnavsaystraighton plus husband, Longers, Dan_bo and a few friends were waiting. The weather was, and sorry for my English, sheeeeite:rain: although we all knew this was likely to be the case, but a few of us hardy souls braved it to have a bit of the rough stuff. Not being the most confident on a mountain bike deciding on the black run was possibly a little fool hardy, but hey might as well have a go. After the first section we headed down the second section to find Dan and @longers pulled up with a rather bent looking wheel where there had been a tree interaction. Dan was helpfully straightening the wheel by hit it repeatedly against a tree with not a lot of panache but quite a lot of vigour:banghead:. @I like Skol helpfully finished the job with a spoke key and we headed on our way allbeit with a strange repeated rubbing sound of rubber on metal. Then @Kestevans brake failed. not a little bit but properly loose flappy lever failed at which point he headed off along the fire road. I had a mudguard on to try in a rather half hearted attempt to prevent myself gettin covered in muck, it kept slipping and catching on the wheel. I was tempted to take it off but couldn't be bothered. However as I dismounted to wait for a couple of the others it snapped clean off as I caught it with my leg, which was nice.
Afterwards back to the cafe for a brew and sustenance. :cuppa:
I have to say the black run was not as tough as I expected with lots of fast flowing steep single track but nothing to scarey or technical. A damn good ride, good company. Would definitely do it again

Yep, any fool on an MTB can do it @potsy

And I would just like to point out that Hacienda's proclamation to be a crap MTB rider is utter tosh! He was quick up the hills and pretty much just as quick down again (unless he got stuck behind @dan_bo)

Was hoping to nip out tomorrow as the weather was supposed to be better than today. The weather eased up about 2 o clock so the wife said I should get out whilst I can coz ill regret it if I can't get out at all this weekend.
So I did. ........
Well Iv never been out in such horrendous conditions ! Wind, rain and very hard hail stones, one of which caught me square on the hooter when I was within a mile from home.
So it goes without saying I took the short cut home and only did 12.7 miles.
All was not lost however, as I managed to get my first KOM whilst I was battling the wind and rain.
Hoping to still get out tomorrow
