Puzzle game procrastinator!
I really must get my MTB working again (the rear hydraulic disc brake lever is kaput) and/or buy a CX bike. I didn't want to ride on the roads in the fog today because parts of the local routes that I like are just too dangerous - there have been quite a few fatalities on those roads over the years and I once witnessed a pile-up in foggy conditions. Correction ... I had once just entered a fog bank at Blackstone Edge and heard a pile-up in front of me, immediately after warning my riding partner to take extreme care at the junction ahead!

It was the kind of day when I would have liked to ride some bridleways instead.

My only exercise today was to move some furniture to a friend's house, and to deliver a parcel which had been incorrectly left for me in my street rather the recipient in the street parallel to me! The Hermes delivery man had come while I was moving that furniture, and left the parcel with one of my neighbours. I was really disappointed when it turned out not to be for me - I had not ordered anything, so I thought it must have either been a surprise present from one of my sisters, or a competition prize. Normally, prize winners are contacted in advance but Cycling Weekly once sent me a £50 pair of sunglasses unannounced! (I have won 2 prizes so far this year and am aiming for my hat-trick!)

If anybody knows the area I went to Millington and Pocklington in the Yorkshire Wolds.
recognised the area from that pic straight away. My favourite area round here for riding, I went over that way on Thursday http://www.strava.com/activities/218829502

I liked riding through Millington Wood; however, the road got very muddy towards the end, after the double hairpin(!)(I went North to South) - maybe a cleaner ride in summer and definitely not after days of rain then fog!

Not ventured further North of Market Weighton before but it was a nice ride, I just had to spend 20 minutes cleaning the bike.

The first picture, of the fog, was from the top of Brantingham Dale; why did I think it was a good idea to include that after 50 miles of cycling I don't know, my legs hate me.

A rare late afternoon/early evening outing for me, delayed from yesterday as I'd done too much driving and was plain too tired. After this mornings usual bread run with my lad, I then had to tolerate shopping, enjoy my boys birthday party, walk the dogs and so on. Finally got out before 4pm, getting gloomy already so made sure I had both rear lights on. A quick 20 miles round Virginia Water, Lyne, Chertsey, Staines, Egham and home. Important discovery, my front light is a great 'be seen', but no good for seeing where I'm going on unlit roads. Also tinted glasses at night don't help:rolleyes:
Really enjoyed riding in the dark, and spoilt only by my first properly near miss in the last 3000 miles, big Merc 4x4 pulled across me from the right, so she got me in primary for a bit nice and slow. And it's no use flashing your hazards to try and apologise luv, you nearly squashed me with your 2.5 ton of metal:angry::angry:
Only 25 miles to go for my 2014 target:smile::smile:

Nice to see they closed the road so you could cut the apex on some blind corners. No, wait, they didn't.

Actually, I'm as envious as hell - loved the whoops and yells!

Nope..no closed roads, thats what they are like here on the rides i do mostly.....free of tin cans....there are tin cans on the main highway but even there most tin canners are decent peeps and pass wide etc.....always gonna be one idiots but even they make genuine mistakes and arnt at war with riders like in UK towns

Just a short 15 miler here today. It was a bit gloomy, but no wind- always a bonus.

The usual haunts today- only one pic, this is taken from one of my favourite spots- a bench over looking Burwell Fen where I stopped for a cuppa from my flask.

I had taken my proper camera with me hoping to see the short eared owls that are about here in winter. None appeared though, ( so the camera didn't get used, just the phone one ) although I did spot a beautiful pair of stonechats.

Further along, a distant barn owl passed by. Saturday is 'shoot' day and the owl flew quite close to some guns, but luckily owl wasn't on their menu today.

Stopped off at dusk at a bird hide (Tubney Fen) to watch the starlings come in to roost. Was joined by a few folks I know from my village which was fun. We were rewarded with another barn owl to top off a really nice afternoon.

Just back in from a couple of very, very muddy hours. Hose bike down, clothes off by the back door, straight into the washing machine, followed by a roasting for dropping clumps of mud everywhere. Just had a shower, then the arduous task of drying, cleaning and lubing the bike. Will be out again tonight but on a different bike, this one can have a rest.

Had to take a detour whilst out, lots of the woodland is closed off because of cleansing! There's knotweed appeared so it'll be closed for a while. The detour was a nightmare, flooded! The chainset was under water and the bike weighed a ton when I left the water. Luckily the frame is drilled so it all ran out within a couple of minutes.

My lovely new white long sleeve jersey was fresh out of the wash last night. By 10am this morning the front of it was spattered brown again, and by 12.30 it was back in the laundry bin of shame. Muddy marvelous today, though.

Things are coming on nicely now with our recruitment drive, with between 8 and 15 of us turning up (out of a pool of about 25) on any given Sunday morning. 36.1 miles on our latest Kingsway CC group ride today, with 11 of us in the peloton this morning. We hit Stonehouse, Frocester and Cam, then stopped for a tea break and a chat at the Black Shed Cafe in Slimbridge, before heading back along the lanes through Frampton, Epney and Elmore.

As usual, nobody got left behind on their own. This time I took my turn to drop back and help to coax the backmarker home, after he started to suffer from a muscle injury. I volunteered to go "Tail End Charlie" for the last 8 miles. (I have learned the hard way not to announce to a large group that "I'll take up the rear")!:whistle:

Cool and dry weather today, though always grey and overcast. Apart from all the muddy puddles, these were lovely conditions for a ride. No sign of the storms or torrential rain predicted by the daily Express. Another nice ride, with a gentle cool down of a finish for me.

Cheers, Donger.:thanks:
