Yesterdays ride today, just before I go out on todays ride that I'll try and post today!
I wanted to get a few Road miles done as recently I my rides have been Off Road. As I was working in the afternoon, I only had time for a quick 25 miles.
I chose a town and country route that took me across Bedford Road and onto Gt. Houghton village, Horton and then a cut across to Denton,

The old wooden sign towards Denton looks a bit hillbilly once I cleared the ivy that was growing over it.. It's 1½ miles if you can read it!

The road around Castle Ashby seemed to have a collection of flying bugs living over it so I kept my mouth closed and got through the area as quickly as possible.

I think it's a weed, but it's quite a pretty weed anyway

Time to head towards home, unfortunately, as I had a 12 hour shift to endure.

I did stop by this future fishing spot and had a chat with an old boy who used to cycle the area regularly until a few years ago, but had to be on my way.

25 miles with several PB's on some uphill bits.

Have been looking forward to this one for a while, i had promised my 9 year old granddaughter i would take her to Cambridge on the tag along bike, She also has been looking forward to it, Sunday morning nice and early we met Holly at the start, hitched up the tag along and set of about 7-20, felt a bit wobbly for the first few miles but we soon tuned into the way the bike felt.
Image6.jpg
I had Debi my other half riding behind for a bit of protection not that we needed it the drivers were fine on the way there,
Image1-6.jpg
This was about halfway, she was working really hard, did not moan at all, we had two feed stops on the way kept her well hydrated, she was loving it, the attention she got from a lot of the other riders made her feel special, she was lapping it up. lol.
Image3.jpg
She got so much applause at the end it bought a tear to my eye, she even got interviewed by the commentator,
Image5.jpg
It was so nice to be able to share this ride with her, i think it will be a memory that stays with her for a long time, she has already booked me for next year.
Image2-5.jpg
After a nice pint and a bite to eat, the tag along was unhitched and Holly was taken home by car, i met up with the rest of the club and we all rode back together, 112 mile round trip, the ride back was a lot easier. a few of us ended up in the pub for a well deserved beer.

I do not as a rule ask for any sponsorship, but Holly has a just giving page thought i might put it on here, it says a little bit about her.

This is what she normally does,

Was a day i will never forget, was a hard ride there but everytime i turned round she had such a big smile on her face it just spured me on.
Looking forward to next year.^_^:becool:

As promised, todays ride today, such as it was.... :rain:

I needed to pop over to t'other side of town to collect some lottery money from an invalided syndicate member. As I got the bike out, it started to rain. No problem, thought I, I'll give it 10 minutes and try again as the clouds looked a bit lighter.

10 minutes later I set off. 10 minutes later, I was wishing I'd not gone out in summer shorts, T-Shirt and trainers. The heavens opened... Bleddy torrential wetness.
Time to turn back thought I. I really didn't fancy another 20 miles of that in 'non-cycling' clothing with wet feet slipping off the pedals..

:surrender:

Wimped out on 3 miles..

Guess what? The sun's shining now! <DOH>

Evening ride plus extra as bike in for service to tomorrow. The biggest downside today was the sodding head winds, it kept my top speed below 30mph
After the 100 mile week last week I am trying to keep to that as mush as possible, but as I will not be able to ride tomorrow and possibly Saturday depending on what time i get back.

Started at 5:00 from Aglionby (off the A69) and rode the Solway coastal roads down to Maryport harbor. (54.something) Great run down with the wind behind me. Was aiming for Millom but because of the timing of the last train to Carlisle (there is actually a way round this via Lancaster but that costs over £20 single) and I had already had a close encounter with cramp so I decided to reverse my route and take a couple of longer breaks. Bashing a head wind most of the way back but nothing spectacular had a pleasant hour snoozing on Silloth prom and then on the way out just past the old Silloth airport SWMBO nearly became widow SWMBO when a fully laden heavy goods wagon with a trailer came within inches of me. It is no exaggeration to say that his wheels were inches from me on a clear road . I gestured and turned the air blue but both of us carried on. I suspect that if I had stopped I would have went in to shock, he was that close. The rest of the trip home was very pleasant with a good stop at Bowness on Solway and another snooze. Yes I was scalped a few times but hey I was doing my thing and most of those that passed me waved or said hello. I was home just after 18:00. A 106.something at an average moving pace of 10.1 I was pleased but rarely have I felt so knackered. Crampex have been taken and will be on my bedside table. I suspect that I will not be riding far tomorrow.

A wee ride from home round local roads, Fleet Pond, Basingstoke canal, Army Golf course, local roads home.Still can not get over the feeling i am getting from riding my bike.
Nice ride the Basingstoke Canal, even on a road bike, since they updated the towpath a few years back. Which stretch do you ride?

30.37 miles this morning. Up at the crack of sparrahs to accompany the enemy on her "short" commute today of 15 point something miles from Pangbourne to Wynersh Triangle calling at Theale, Three MIle Cross and Wynersh. Dropped the missus off at the triangle and I turned round a came straight back. No time for a longer ride today, I'm off to donate platelets again in a minute. 16.97 mph ave, not bad for me as don't tend to ride fast as I cant be arsed usually. Probably fast as the route is flat, very flat, flatter than a witches tit.

Less a ride today, more a matter of two rides on two days with a sleep inbetween, or else the miniest of mini camping tours ever.
I left work in Coventry about 8 last night, and loaded my sleeping and bivvy bags and cookset into the panniers, then headed south over some roads I know quite well down through Baginton and Hunningham to Offchurch. I rode then down part of the Offchurch Greenway, a well-surfaced gravel path on the line of an old railway, and found a nice spot with wide views where I nearly camped for the night, but decided instead to carry on to the Grand Union Canal a short way further on.

It was a good choice and I found a great spot by a lock, with plenty of room for bike and bivvy bag, and just a couple of narrow boats for distant neighbours. Dinner of pasta and sardines was no masterpiece but it did the job.
20140729 bivvy by GU canal nr Offchurch (5A).jpg

It was a beautiful night with big stars and a very clear milky way. At 4 am. I woke to a faint mist rising from the water in the early light, and from 5.30 the sun peeked intermittently through the bushes.

I was up and off by 7, and retraced the evening’s route back to Coventry. The road bike handles the extra baggage and weight pretty well, but the hills just seem to double in size!
That’s a good start to a working day.

I join the Canal at Fleet pond and quite often turn either way.I have ridden and walked all of it, my favorite section is from Fleet pond to the Greywell Tunnel, then return through the lanes to Odiham, Dogmerfield, crookham and home.

That's a target for me then, I join the canal at West Byfleet and normally turn round when I reach St John's, so getting to that stretch will be an all day ride for me.

I've ridden all over that area over the years but I've never got round to riding the greenway, the one I have used a lot is the farm road the other side of Harbury.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Went for a pottle this afternoon. The weather has changed. Its rather dull, and there is a breeze and the sky was rather dark. As it turned out, it started to rain, but never mind. Today I was on my flat(ter) route again and I was concentrating on speed rather than distance per se. I surprised myself by managing a 14 ph average. Yayyy. I only took a couple of photos today

time to get out of dodge before the rain methinks
