Probably the hardest post I've had to make, but here goes......

My mum passed away on Saturday morning, after her brave battle with cancer. I decided to pull out of the BHF Worcester Ride, on Sunday, as it would have been dangerous for me to attempt it in the state I was in.

After a tough few days of sorting things out, I did a short but much needed ride today, for a bit of thinking time and to clear the head.

I headed out to Upton Magna, Withington, Rodington, Roden, Poynton, Bings Heath and back to Upton Magna, retracing my steps home.

It was lovely and warm, but quite breezy by the end of the ride.

23 miles at 12.5 mph avg

I plan to arrange a 50 mile route with @Rickshaw Phil as my own BHF ride, sometime over the coming few weeks, when things like funeral are out of the way. That way I will feel happy that I achieved something for all of the sponsorship that I have collected (£495)

I would like to thank people on here for their support and kind messages about mum over the past 6 months.

Cycling is going to be very high up on the list of things that will get me through this

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum, it's so sad. Oddly I thought about you yesterday, whilst I was doing platelets, I wondered why we hadn't seen a post for a few days. I'm sorry for your loss.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

I'm glad you were able to get the ride in this morning and that it has helped a bit. Doug and I did miss you on the BHF ride but I think it was best that you didn't ride so soon afterwards.

I've been having a look at the route we discussed and it turns out it's one I've been considering doing myself for quite a while now. Quite hilly in places, but nothing you haven't done before when we've been to the Lake District. It'll make an excellent challenge ride.

Again, my condolences and if there is anything I can help with you know where I am.

Very sorry to hear your news, Gav. Hope you are able to come to terms with things soon. Speaking from personal experience, cycling will be one of the best possible ways to give you the "me time" you need - either on your own, when you get loads of time to think, or with friends like Phil, who can help to take your mind off things. I think I know what you are going through, so best wishes.

Hope you and Phil enjoy your BHF surrogate ride. Will it be just the 2 of you, or are you going to form a small peloton to replicate the group ride feel?

Doug will be coming with us as well and possibly my brother, if he can be persuaded and so it should be a good day

I added another 32.5 miles to today's ride, meeting the nutter wife back from her 50 mile commute home. We stopped for pizza on the way back and got home about 30 minutes ago. 100.4 miles for her and 98.5 miles for me today. Very nice rides out apart from twat in a pikey mobile nearly sideswipeing me on a roundabout. Feckin twunt!
