It's a bit late... but last weekend a few friends and I had a 4 day ride around the Cheshire Cycleway, which was modified slightly to make it fit in the time we had available. The plan was not to ride vast distancces but to have a gentle ride, sample some fine ales and generally have a good laugh

Day one saw us driving from Carlisle down to Great Budworth, parking up the cars and then setting off in a clockwise direction towards our first nights stop at the Ryles Arms, a few miles to the south of Macclesfield - avoiding Friday afternoon Knutsford, Alderley Edge and Macclesfield before entering the Peak District NP, passing Lamaload Res'r, dropping into Wildboarclough and finally up out of the valley to that night's digs

36 miles @10.3mph and 3 pints on route

Day two, started with a massive breakfast provided by the Ryles Arms before we set off in the direction of Nantwich skirting Congleton and Alsager on the way to arrive at the Premier Inn (Nantwich), where we were allowed to take the bikes up to or room  as there was nowhere else safe to park them.

36½ miles @ 11.2 and 4 pints on route

Day three was a meandering ride to Chester clipping the Welsh border on the way, with a final run into Chester along the Shropshire Union Canal. The excellent evening meal was provided by Convivio

44 miles @ 10.9mph with 3 pints on route. (This unfortunate low tally was due to us leaving the Bull in Shocklach after just one pint due to the surly ignorant gimp behind the bar spoiling our experience of what could be a great pub.)

Day four got off to a very wet start as we left Chester via a the Shropshire Union heading northwards towards Ellesmere Port, but turning eastward at the M56 and heading back across country towards Great Budworth, passing through Delamere Forest on the way. Lucking the weather cleared up and last 15 miles were sunny and cloudless, with a nice gentle tailwind pushing us gently towards our destination.

30 miles @ 10.5mph with 1pint, and due to me having to dive back to Cumbria....1 pot of tea, 1 slice of rocky roads and 1 piece of flapjack en route.

All in all, a great few days.

You've obviously been up to your Photoshop tricks @ColinJ .....for that photo of me you've found a picture of some overweight middle aged geezer and superimposed my head on it.

15.4 miles today, back into Northamptonshire to see my drummy mate for a coffee and a gossip and a general moan about the state of the country, work, women, cost of living, cars and drums & drummers.

A nice day, lots of flies about though, nothing much happened except I saw one of my neighbours down the road, her car parked and wondering about looking distressed. It appears she had just hit and killed a deer, which is very upsetting. Her car was badly damaged, she was a bit shocked, but she calmed down and off she went. It's very sad this sort of thing but there ain't much you can do about. It's going to be expensive repairing her car.

No photos as there isn't much to photograph on a 15 mile ride, Brackley isn't anything special and the country side between here and there is flatter than a witches tit.

Another of the over to my parents' home to help out again today. Not much happened on the way out, or the way home except for me stopping to photo some nice light in some copper beech trees and the roads being strangely quiet and deserted for a Friday evening - places where there are normally long queues, there was nothing - odd.

Oh I did see a stoat carrying what looked like a very small rabbit, or something similar, as it darted out in front of me across the road, not 3m in front of my wheel. No sooner had I registered its presence than it was gone again.

And it was a rather slow commute in both directions due to the hawthorn coming out in flower here and my asthma is playing merry hell as a result. Cycling gets difficult for me at this time of year... Still I'm doing better than this time last year when it had be bed bound for weeks at a time. Finger's crossed I manage to keep getting out.

Bagsied the early 3:30 finish at work today to enjoy my 3rd ride of the week, in lovely warm sunshine, but a deceptively gusty breeze.

Took the usual route out to upton magna, gaining brownie points with the local CSO who was cycling up the narrow and yet again overgrown path by the sports village, as I pulled in to let her past and got a big cheery thanks off her. I then followed a lovely young lady along the old canal path and was steadily catching her as far as the gate, where she let me past as she said I had "much more speed going on than her"!

After pulling myself together it was nice with the breeze behind me to Atcham, taking the Upton Magna route to avoid the rat run in Friday rush hour where they drive like nutters.

I then climbed up to Condover and Ryton. For such a small village, Ryton is a deceptively dangerous place for cyclists! It has a number of sweeping blind bends and a few years ago @Rickshaw Phil and I almost collided with a chap in a motorised invalid scooter who was coming round a bend on the wrong side of the road. Today I almost collided with a woman who was cajoling an old tired dog on a walk. She was in the middle of the road, with dog and looking the opposite way to that she was walking and I had to go between her and the dog to avoid them both!! She apologised profusely!!

About 30 seconds later I was almost run down by a moron in a black vectra who was going ridiculously fast for the lane, around a bend and didn't even brake :cursing:.

I was obviously distracted now as when climbing a bank I heard a horrid scraping noise from the chain and looked down to see that I was in 1st and 1st in the gears:eek:.

Anyway, the rest of the ride was much better, down to Longnor and then the lovely downhill section to Frodesley, Acton Burnell, Pitchford, Cantlop, and back to Atcham. I say lovely, it was here where the wind decided to get up and it was a headwind all the way home for about 17 miles and my legs felt it by the end.

After Atcham I took a small detour into the grounds of Attingham Park. It's a National Trust property with nice grounds.

It also meant I had avoided a bit of the rat run again and I headed back through Upton Magna and home.

32.28 miles and 12.0 avg mph

i managed three laps of richmond park in 1hr 20 mins. then carried on for a 4th climb of 'dark hill' and even managed a top speed on the 4th descent of Broomfield hill.

a total of 38 and a bit miles... not bad, i'm getting there. strave also claims i have set PBs on many of the segments.

i saw a kestrel swoop over the road and acroos the park. stopped to let the deer cross (shame that other rider couldn't be bothered to wait and scared the rest of the herd). had a lovely chat with a female cyclist as we went from Ham to Kingston. got passed by a man with one leg - i did catch him later, but he turned off before i had a chance to whup him *kof*.

i stopped for water at Sheen gate and found someone already at the fountain...

i waited for it to finish, filled my bottle and then another one came along, buzzed around me for a bit and then did the same thing when i got out of the way.
