The first time I've seen a live snake in the UK (in the wild)

Back at temporary base at North Connel an Arctic Skua came over and circled round. Not a bird I would expect to see above the Falls of Lora but apparently there are lots of fry around and lots of mackerel chasing them. Gulls not normally seen here seem to be homing in on the feast. Did not have a camera handy so no pics I regret to say.

Some sort of Shield Bug, which are also called Stink Bugs because they emit an unpleasant-smelling liquid as a defence mechanism. They might be Pentatoma rufipes, which is a late-summer to autumn species, but I'm not good at insect identification.

Clearing some ivy and leaves from around some trees on a bank behind our house and spotted a Slow worm!

First one I've ever seen. Sandy brown colour, about 150mm long, so I'm guessing a youngster. Watched it for a few seconds then it was gone, slithered into the undergrowth.

We came back from a night away to discover that the squirrels had launched a full-on frontal assault on one of the bird feeders.

Utterly nuts!
