Oh dear ! Ours survived being frozen last year . Any chemicals in the pond ?
No chemicals apart from "Pond Clear" added last year. The label states it is not harmful to ect ect (cant remember the phrase).
Our fish have done well and the population seems to have doubled.

I have just come back from a test ride. I thought I would combine it with looking for the Peregrine again. I couldn't see it where I saw it last time so I cycled back towards home. It was whilst I was watching 3 Buzzards soaring that I noticed a pair of Peregrines milling around way above them. I watched them for a while before they split up and flew off in different directions .

'Our' male swallow returned on Saturday, joined yesterday by his mate. They seem, ahem, quiet pleased to be reunited!
In other news, here's Blanche, our resident white hen pheasant who lives with her mate and two other hens in the field behind the house.

2 days ago, cycling through countryside tree lined tracks and trails alongside the river Nene, a rather large Jay flew up about 10ft in front of me. Lovely looking birds, not uncommon but not often seen unless you're in the right habitat.

I have noticed that some Hedgehogs have left some calling cards on our patio. I haven't seen any of them yet but there are a few deposits .

I heard a beaver splash and it was gone.

Out for an evening joggle in Telemark. Dam about six foot high to the left of the photo and the form (or whatever you call it) in the middle, or far right.

I read a book when bothy-bound in the scottish highlands thirty-odd years ago about re-introducing beavers to Scotland. Since then I've had a thing for them. But this is the closest I've been to eyeballing one in the wild.
