Not wildlife I know but on the way home from work this evening I saw my first lambs of the year. I am a happy bunny
It will carry on producing it for some time to come. You can tap 2lliters a day off one tree without affecting it for several weeks.Frogspawn arrived in my pool yesterday. Fished out a newt along with some leaves.
Saw four buzzards circling over my garden (and several hundred others).
Bought some nyjer seed for the goldfinches.
Blue tits are loving the kibbled peanuts at the mo.
On a slightly different note, I had a large silver birch taken down recently and had heard stories of how much they "bleed" and this one has sap pouring off it. I'm looking at it now and it is dripping. I recall Ray Mears once drilling into one and drinking the sap but I didn't realise they produced this much.
22 miles today & just over half way round heard a bird squawk, looked over & couldn't really id it, looked the size of a buzzard, but lighter under the wings then in the last couple of miles disturbed a pair of buzzards that were in the hedgerow, they flew in opposite directions & the one that flew over the road was within 20 feet of me, amazing , then at the end of the lane there was a barn owl in the distance.
Must try taking a camera out sometime
Buzzards are extremely variable in plumage. They can vary from almost creamy coloured underneath to chocolatey brown. If it was buzzard sized and sounded like a buzzard, 99.9% chance it was one, regardless of whether it was paler than usual. There are other rare options like Rough Legged Buzzard but the chances are very slim. Must be nice to see Barn Owls, never see them around here
I find that hard to believe. They sound like a kitten, surely you must have heard them ?I see loads of buzzards, but very rarely hear them,
That's true, I don't remember ever seeing them on the ground. And while I've seen that other green bird, the green woodpecker feeding on bugs or worms in the grass, they don't seem to do it in groups. They're pretty solitary, IME.Plenty of Parakeets on the ground today foraging away at something in the grass over at Richmond Park. Never seen them do this before and they were so confident that the ones by the roadside stood their ground and carried on whilst i flew by.
