Miss Goodbody has invited me over to peruse some lovely tits in her neighbour's bush.

I went out for a ride this evening and, about 1000ft up on a climb through rough pasture a white bird flapped across the road close in front of me

My first reaction was "what the hell...I've no idea what that is". Then it became clear...Barn Owl. I've never seen one around here in 15 years, they are rare I these parts. I've cycled that hill dozens of occasions but rarely so late (it was about 8.45pm) so maybe that's why I've never seen it before. Anyway, magical
see quite a lot round here often see them near dusk, a bike is a wonderful way to see them, they don't seem to recognise a cyclist as a human so you can get quite close, I have had some amazing moments of them hunting the hedgerows as I have cycled alongside.
Our resident has been missing for about 4 or 5 months now. It was regular before that, so I guess it has met its end. So many are killed by cars. I've had it fly just 5 or 6 feet directly above my head before now, which is a lovely experience. As an aside, I was once badger watching in a local wood at dusk when a tawny owl landed on a branch of the tree I was leaning on, no more than 3 feet above my head, and stayed there for 10 minutes or more, calling. I hardly dared breath! The quietness of their flight is always impressive, but when it passes only inches from your head and you still can't hear anything, that's pretty special.
