Not sure what this is / was for, but it looks like some sort of generator in the middle of Cockfield Fell. The pipe coming out of it might suggest a water pump, but who knows? The 'osses didn't have a clue either.

It could be, there are mine workings under there, but it looks quite an age and I thought gas monitoring was just for landfill sites?
I initially thought the vertical pipe was an exhaust. I'll have to get a better look next time I'm over there.

Crop in all sorts of places since the 90s. Think half the ground gas experts in the UK ended up working on the Chunnel. Mind you I only ever spot the diddy ones at landfill sites
