I vaguely recall a Will Hay film with a Garman spy asking for "Sluff" instead of Slough.
I watched this last night.
It was about Hannah Hauxwell,a Yorkshire farmer living a hard solitary life in the Yorkshire dales many years ago.
My question is what sort of accent does/did she have? To me there's a bit of Welsh/Irish and summat else in there. It doesn't sound like Yorkshire to me.🤔
Excellent answerit's one she picked up from her parents, which's evolved all on its own in her isolation up in the far reaches of her remote Yorkshire dale... where the wilds of Yorkshire mix with SW Durham and Westmorland!
Next you'll be telling us that oop north they have pet whippets, keep pigeons, and wear wooden clogs.
Ecky ThumpHas 'baah eck lad' and 'ecky thump' been mentioned yet?
Ecky Thump
That's the ancient Lancastrian martial art, isn't?, as immortalised by The White Stripes (??) on one of their CDs
Close, Ecky Thump was the Goodies martial art if I recall, the White Stripes is Icky Thump.
