I have a custom frame and think there is a significant psychological benefit from thinking it's your own non-mass produced unique machine. Sort of a cycling placebo effect when it comes to comfort and ride. I did get it measured up carefully and have since made small and large changes to the stem so perhaps fit changes depending on my aching back and the seasonal changes in my fitness. Anyway, the nice warm feeling you get from your own bike is ...priceless.

Being long in the leg department I have tried a custom frame from Roberts. It really is very good and like a well-fitting pair of shoes. It was specced to be a good hill-climber as my old 531 frame was a bit too flexible (I am a strong but heavy hill climber) and it does that well.

However, I also get by ok on a large-framed off-the-peg machine with a slightly shorter stem.
