Good luck!

If you've done 35, then you will manage the 50, just keep getting time in the saddle. Hopefully you can get your proper bike soon, so you can spend some time on it before the day. If anything needs adjusting for comfort, you don't want to be finding it on the day of the event
I picked up my Viking the day I set of for London (2008) from Dewsbury, the shifters confused me to start with, took 4 days, but I was carrying camping gear and slept rough as I was doing a little ride for Missing People.
As Chris says 35 to 50 isn't too great a leap, so you will be fine, just remember fluids in the heat, and fuel, though I don't up to 35-40 miles, sometimes I wish I had eat a little more before setting off, but it's never a problem, longer than that I usually have fig biscuits, cereal bars ect (usually have a couple in my saddle bag just in case.
Just take it easy and don't push too hard to start with.

Hi Guys - Thanks for the positive messages . . Well I picked up the new bike last night (Thurs) but it's been pouring with rain ever since, and as much as I'm itching to give it a go . . I really don't want to take it out in the rain ! ! ! :rain: (Not the first time anyway)..

Weather forecast for the weekend is looking better so will get out then . . Hopefully can manage about 25 - 30 on it the first time . . Although the new saddle (although it's FAR better than my old one); will probably rub in some new places ! !!
You might surprise yourself.

Well have got the new bike. Specialized Sirrus Sport and done 33 miles on it this morning. To be honest it was getting rather uncomfortable for the last 10 miles. But I guess that's to be expected.

So I've got a week to get in some "saddle time" before the 50 miles next week. Think I'll just do some short 12 - 15 milers during the week to try and get used to the saddle.

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone. I'll let you know how it goes

A change of bike will always bring a few new aches.

If you were comfortable on your old bike then try to make the new one as similar as you can, most notable with saddle height. Measure the distance from the centre axle of your chainset to the top of the saddle on you old bike and adjust the new on to the same.

Hi everyone
Well the 50 miler for charity was completed on Sunday . . Wasn't the weather fantastic :sun: I was glad of the light breeze that was blowing to help keep cool . .Hopefully there will be some photos from the event that I will be able to post soon . .

Didn't hurt as much as I was expecting ! ! ^_^ I'm going to have a couple of days off . . . . to give myself (read . ."my bum" ) chance to recover and then it's onwards and upwards . .

I hope that everyone managed to get out on their bikes over the weekend and enjoy the wonderful weather . . :bicycle:

Well done. Keep enjoying it, forget about the miles while you're out and soon 50 mile rides will seem a breeze. It's amazing how quick you develop.

It's true when you're with a group of cyclists you start talking and the miles to seem to pass quite quickly
