Which I think is marvellous wordplay, in itself even if their delightful creations are a tad on the flimsy side for my tastes..

You're new here so you never heard the pedant in chief for the entire Earth get annoyed about this exact issue.

Unfortunately he was wrong as Fowler's said the issue was more complicated. If something is collective even if it's numeric, less can be used correctly.

I was answering what I took to be a genuine question about usage. Of course it is more complicated than this. And I bow to Fowler's judgement in most things.
