Yes but OP lives in Leeds and there have only been one or two frosty mornings down here so very little salt on roads - likely just cheap components on the bike...

Are you running with or without mudguards. The spray and salt will go further without mudguards to contain it.

Those rotors may clean up using a dremel style tool with a wire brush on the end. But beware, it's a horrible attachment to use, bits of wire fly off the brush and get everywhere, including sticking in your clothes. Wear eye protection! If you don't have a dremel style tool then steel wool may work if you haven't left it too long (and the longer you leave it, the deeper and worse the pitting gets!)

As for gritting, I believe standard policy is to spread at 4C or below, so you'll often see salt all over the place when there is no frost.

I wouldnt worry, the discs / brakes/ drums whatever on a brand new Merc/ bmw or Lexus will look like that within a few days of driving it off a forecourt...have a look next time you are in a tesco car park

Take pleasure in the fact that you are using it at this time of year...or any time of year come to that.

I wouldn't worry too much about surface rust on the rotors and whatnot. If it's a working bike it will get trashed.

But yes for me at least, this winter seems to be trashing the bike more than usual - or at least bringing year round wear to a head and all the mechanicals are hitting at once. It's not salt, just the constant standing water and crap washed on the roads.
