Winter tyres

Looking for recommendations.

I usually run Continental GP5000 and do like a performance tyre. In Winter however, I swap out and have been running Continental Contact more concerned with grip given the wet roads and paths and the amount of fallen leaves at that time of year.

Looking to swap back to my Summer set and the Contacts are looking like they may need replaced for next year...

Any good recommendations for a 700C 28MM tyre, grip being a priority?

What's your budget?

I've been running Vittoria Cinturato Velo tyres for two winters but am about to fit the highly recommended GP5000 AS TR as they're GP5000's with more winter protection. But they aren't cheap.

Left field choice:

Goodyear Vector Sport - mine are 32mm but I think they do 28mm.

Plenty of tough PF proofing and sticky, grippy rubber.

Always had good luck with Vittoria Zaffiro Pros, roll decently, grip well and have decent puncture protection.

Thank you guys, some good options there.

I ride the road but do a fair bit along the cycle path in Winter too, runs next to the canal and is lined with trees much of the way; I always feel that more tread is needed for the leaf mulch.

Possible that the Contacts are overkill, and was considering something a bit faster. Best thing about the Contacts is putting the GP5000s back on Glad that Spring is here...

As you’re a Conti fan, the Contact Urban are a fast and highly puncture resistant tyre (6/7 on the Conti scale). Also very good road grip in wet/damp conditions.

Panaracer Ribmo share similar properties and are even hardier. Both fine on compressed soil/gravel paths. Bit iffy in wet mud.

I am swaying that way. Been checking around online from the suggestions above, saw that Conti chart with speed/use/ durability etc. Looking at either Urban or Ride City if I go with a bit more tread. Cheers.

Yes I'd 2nd the GP 4 seasons for winter, decent grip and rolling, expensive but most decent tyres are it seems

I remember buying a pair of those from Halfords for ~£50 around '17... Still have them now, albeit I'd struggle to recall when I last used them, maybe 5 years ago?!?!

In recent years, my road bike typically stays indoors Nov-Mar unless we have some exceptional winter weather, with my hybrid usually wearing 35/40mm (measure -2/3mm) Marathon Supremes or a set of 38mm 45Nrth Gravdal (~240) ice spike tyres.

Zaffiro Pro's are pretty good all rounders tBH. Not particularly fast but I've been using them for a long time on two of my road bikes. My CX bike came with Gators, and these have been fine, despite the 'reputation' for being a bit skiddy.

My favourite all time weather tyre was Conti 4 Seasons.

Ice spike tyres for Ice but I suspect I may never ride again in ice (they aren't fool proof and a fractured pelvic is not funny as I now know)
