Well I bought the bike stand from
Halfords and pre-washed the bike the night before, used water baby wipes for some hard to shift grime and they really shifted it well, they're water based with a little citric acid in there, dried the bike.
Put it in the stand in kitchen (wife returned mid wax/polish after a 13.5hr shift wasn't happy) removed the wheels cage etc and proceeded to apply the wax/polish the only before pic was the one in the stand you can't see the staining on the decals, but the after shots I am happy with, the wax/polish really bought out the colour it looks a lot richer and the markings on the decals are mostly gone I am very pleased.
Now need to address some indexing issues, finding the chain from the front to rear cog looks overly pushed to one side, is a bike Haynes manual worth a look? I am also tempted to ask the LBS to do it, but to also ask them to talk me through the process.
