...I'm looking at some SKS Race Blades - why would the mud guards split?

Not sure. Seemed to have them fitted well enough. (Own opinion right enough). No tension on brackets etc but the back one gave up in two places. Keep the bike reasonably clean during winter so not sure.

Have used cheaper unbranded ones from LBS previous but got the SKS ones at same time as bike from Evans.

Wondering from the "let me guess SKS" comment if there not so good. Race Blades are a different fitment i think. Mine are full guards.

96 F here today. But dropping to 73 for a high by late in the week. New tires (Hutchinson Pythons) ordered, starting to rehabilitate an old 29'er for the snow.

Done my winter prep- re-attached the loose wire from the hub dynamo to my rear light. Even had the lights on this morning because I left at six, still a little gloomy at that time.

The normal commuter (Carrera Virago magnesium) now has lights fitted (main & spare) ready for early nights. It'll stay on Rubino's though.

I've built a winter commuter which now has mudguards and lights; an Eastway R4.0:

After virtually swimming home on several occasions last week I finally re-fitted mud-guards to my CX commuter / winter bike / summer bike for when it's raining and I don't want to get my proper summer bike filthy....

... it's now guaranteed to be sunny and dry for the foreseeable.

I had a Chromoplastic rear 'guard that vibrated itself into two pieces three times at about the 12 o'clock point, between seat stay bridge and rear 'guard stays. Fitted a Tortec in replacement and it's been fine.

I've seen other complaints on fora about them breaking, but as SKS are popular, it's hardly a statistically significant conclusion. As you say, the race blades are different.

Tested lights in case I have to order any replacements or new batteries. Will fit brackets etc around the end of September.

Back in the saddle after taking the summer off, so its fitness I need more than any other prep.
Commuter is an old Cube, but I found a mountain bike when walking the dogs. Chain needs replacing and the cables too, but should be a grand icy road work horse

Started getting the Marlin 29er ready, lots of ordering on Amazon to replace parts destroyed by neglect. Still, I should get a good, big mtb out of this when I am done.

Exact same fault with mine . Fitted the wider 45mm ones this time so see how they go. If the same i'll give a different brand a go next time.

I'm considering getting the LBS to fit a set of proper mudguards but I'll be miffed if I still get wet feet afterwards so not sure yet.
