After going on about not going out on the bike after the end of sept and only using a turbo trainer - I Must eat my words - i have been out on the bike 4 days this week to take advantage of the good weather - the roads were full of other cyclists doing the same thing - has everyone else done the same.

I Commute all year- loathe wind & rain- but then I remember how much fitter I am & how much nicer real cycling is over my exercise bike (which I've now sold) not sure if I'll be exposing my recently acquired carbon bike to the elements tho' ! ;-)))

Having done a paper round as a kid in every weather, I have never considered not cycling all year round. I do make sure I am wearing the right kit and have mudguards on the bike. I also try to avoid too much cold heavy rain. Cycling gives me a sense of freedom I don't get in the car and I don't want to give that up because it is a few degrees cooler.

Ive read all thats been said - good luck to you - but i am sorry when the temp drops another 15 degs and its pouring down for days on end and while ever the hole in my backside faces the ground - i will not be going out on the bike - but again - good luck to you. I do realize that using the bike to commute is different.

however it is worth noting that all the world class riders drop drastically the miles they do in winter - they chose an alternative sport , spend more time in the gym - it gives the body and mind a physical and mental rest.

Easier to commute in the next 6 months. At least you will know to wear the same clothes in the morning and evening and need lights each way too.

Currently it's chilly and dark in the morning but warm and light leaving work.
