I haven't bought a bike from them but I have bought other stuff from them in the past. They were always fine until the first time something went wrong. After sending me the wrong clothing item they refused to reimburse my return postage costs. Their reasoning being that they had described the item as per the manufacturer, even though in reality this was incorrect, and somehow that became my problem.

I have never used them again.

oh have i allready mentioned ..i bought my giant defy 2 from winstanleys a month ago  ,but as they are only about 1.5 miles from home ,i actually used the shop and not online service ... still no problems though . first service due in three weeks so i will see what happens then ...

I did ask a specific question about whether a bike had Sora or FSA Vero cranks, the photo was Sora the description was FSA Vero. The e-mail answer I got was vague - they just said the description says FSA Vero, well I already knew that. I guess to open the box and have a look was too much trouble.

I asked if they would knock a bit off for cash on collection as I'm only a couple of hours from Wigan, they said no. They offer free delivery, but the courrier obviously charges (£20 or so).

It was all a bit vague, so I ended up buying another bike in York.

I've bought quite a few things from them because they have a wide range of Giant branded accessories and i like things to match, although the quality of some Giant accessories seem poor, as if theyre just rebranded too. Ive not had any problems with Winstanleys, theyve been pretty decent and delivery has been quite quick, it seems the returns/customer service is where the problems may lie.

Several years ago I emailed them about cassettes. I never got a response despite sending the email 3 times over the space of about 2 weeks. I took the view that they were making so much money that they didn't have the courtesy to reply to my email meaning I spent the money elsewhere, CRC I think. Anyway I emailed them again last year about something else but never received a reply. I s'pose their email address could be dead, but they should really be checking that it is working. So they really do have CRAP customer service. I wouldn't buy anything from them, they can't even be bothered to reply to emails from potential customers.

Well, with some reservations, I ordered the Defy2 from them today. I would have gone elsewhere but couldn't find a good alternative for the price or even someone who had it in stock who would price match. Wish me luck!

The Giant Mini Pump I have is an aluminium version of the Aldi / Lidl unit. Many common parts.
I bought the one with the pressure dial on from winstanleys, looked exactly like the one i saw in lidl too  The bit that automatically switched presta/schraeder broke so i binned it and bought a Lezyne pump im very happy with

IMO if you by something online and it arrives in the time stated on the order then this is what I would expect as a bare minimum.
I would not give a review saying how the item is of good quality if I am reviewing a shop (this happens quite often). The quality of the item is down to the manufacturer not the shop.

I would only 'rate' a shop if they went over the 'minimum' with communication, advice on the product, or most importantly if something goes wrong. This is where you can 'test' how really good the shop customer care is, not if they have just fulfilled their minimum legal requirement.

PS one think I despise is when you ask a retailer (or in the case of a service) a question by e-mail and instead of replying with an answer they say: it's on the website (and on both occasions where it happened was very poorly designed!) as if that attitude is going to win them a sale!

I bought a bike from them which I ended up sending back which was loads of hassel and expense to me! I've also had problems when ordering kit too so I never even consider them anymore even if they are cheap.

I got my bike today. I had to put some bits on, bit traumatic as i'm clueless. I've got a few bits left which i have no idea what to do with but i'll give the bike a little run tomorrow and see if anything falls off. It seems half the weight of my Charge Mixer (actually i think it is).

Just make sure the headset stack is tightened up. When you apply the front brake and push forward on the handlebars there should be no movement. I had to learn how to do this when I got my first boxed bike.
