I’m a lot more careful than l was years ago, as it’d be far too embarrassing being scraped up by little green men & women
Firstly, it’d probably be a crew l knew (unless l was well away from home)
Then, l’d know the ED nurses & doctors
(& any specialities, like orthopaedics that came down)
Again, l’d possibly know the Roads Policing Officer who came to see me, if required by the form of RTC/injury
That’s one of the downsides of working at a Hospital!!!
That said, strike-day was very quiet, even with the ‘self-presenters’
It gave ED a chance to catch up, & try to empty itself
The crews l spoke with, on the day, were on stand-by for Cat 1
As An Aside
The last time, barring a check over after finding black-ice (I was working there then) l was treated in A&E/ED was 1997, after going through the rear window of (what we later found out was an abandoned/No Keeper) car
I had to walk to a nearby pub, ask to use the phone to call wife (then g/f)
She collected me part way, took me to A&E
She worked at that Hospital at the time, as Bed Manager, so knew ED staff
She didn’t ask, but they took me through
(the department was a LOT quieter back then)
Still have the facial scars (wore helmet & glasses even back then)
