Will this chain fit my 6 speed Uniglide

I have an old MTB with 6 speed Shimano Uniglide cassette and 3 x Biopace chainrings making 18 gears in total. Is the Shimano Altus HG40 6-7-8 speed chain the correct one? The pin lengths are the same as my KMC chain at 7.3mm. THanks for any advice.

I thought uniglide chains were designed to work only with uniglide cogs ?

Any 5-8 speed should be fine but be sure to buy one with a quick link. You’ll need a chain breaker tool too.

Thanks for your replies. There are Uniglide chains out there, but the price is stupid. £80/$110 approx.

And have a chain breaker already.

Any 8 speed chain will do.

Replacement uniglide cassettes are virtually unobtainable, so it's worth changing chain at about 0.5% wear.

Once a new chain won't run on the cassette, you can also split it and reverse the sprockets (other than the screw on top gear) to effectively return it to new.
