Hi guys.
Struggling with the hills here around South Wales.
I've got the boardman limited edition roadie (black and yellow one)
8 speed SRAM pg830 11-28 cassette

Bought this from wiggle
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-cs-hg41-8-speed-cassette/

Been told by a few ppl it will just simply swap over without causing issues to the derailiers as 11-30 from 11-28 wouldn't see any mechanical problems.
Hopefully they are right!
Would I see much difference between the two in the lower gears?

Lots of useful background in the very recent thread linked above.
to make sure the rear derailleur is not forced up into your cogs when you click up a cog.
Not quite sure what you mean by this - 'forced up into the cogs, in what way? The test is: if the rear derailleur cage makes an angle with the seatstay of less than 45 degrees when you try to get large to large, you need an additional link (ie one inch) in your chain.

From the page linked below:
"because Shimano Claris is a relatively new offering, the rear derailleur can cope with sprockets featuring anything up to 32 teeth, resulting in a very broad range of gear sizes."

Thanks for your post. So Going by the article I could get away with 11-32 cassette without affecting the derailleur? Halfords seem to think I might get away with a 30 but might have some ticking from the chain but a 32 is a no go because it's a short cage.

For the sake of a tenner I'll try the 30 first see how I get on. Then I'll try the 32 later for another tenner.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm slowly learning the bike instead of just jumping on and riding it.

I don't understand why they don't make a 12-30. Why this overwhelming need to have an 11t smallest sprocket?
Anyway, OP, you may find this a useful link (not certain what sprockets the 8 sp 11-30 has so I've guessed):

Thanks guys, cassettes all fitted.
Noticed a good difference in the amount of effort needed.
Usually climb 2,500 ft on a 50 mile ride managed to do 40miles with 4400 ft of climbing and even did the tumble on my first attempt( although I stopped twice for a minute to let my knees cool down)
