will sora sti's operate on mirage

just a simple question really will my pr of shimano sora 3 x 8 sti's operate on a campag mirage crankset and mechs ? struggling to find campag sti's without breaking the bank

Directly no, however it may be possible to make it work with a Jtek Shiftmate, however which version of the shiftmate will match your combination of components is not something I can determine.

Try ebay for sora front rear mec. would be cheaper than paying out for sti

This will help. I think with care you could get something usable but unlikely to be smooth. Sora mech is pretty cheap new though. Crankset should be fine and use a 9 speed chain too as it will be smoother

All front mechs will work ok as they all share the same pull ratio. Shimano 8sp will not work with Campag 8sp as the ratios are different. Shiftmate might work, but they are expensive for what they are.

The sora's will work with the Campagnolo chainset and front mech.

In my experience the rear mech may or may not work - try it and see. I think it will probably work ok if you set it up in the middle of the cassette so that any error is shared at either end.

It doesn't matter where on the cassette you set it up - the 8sp spacing is still not compatible.

I am pretty sure Shimano front shifters pull too little cable for Campag front mechs. I would expect it to be pants for a triple chainset. Similarly for the rear, where according to the last table here the best klutch is a shortened Campag 10 speed block.

Shimano shifter will work fine with a Campag front. I used to use 8sp (and 9sp) Shimano STIs with a Mirage front. All front mechs from Shimano, SRAM, Campag and others are effectively interchangeable. The only conflict is at the rear.
