Will I get a 30 year old freewheel off?

Make sure you use the remover tool correctly. It has to be held in place with the quick release skewer or the axle nut, otherwise it will slip off and damage your freewheel.

Last month I snapped two spoke on the fixies/SS rear wheel. I decided to remove the freewheel to make life a bit easier repairing the wheel.

I put the freewheel remover in a vice then plonked the wheel ontop of it.
I heaved and pushed at the rim and promptly snapped several more of the spokes.

I calmly went and bought a new wheel.
