Check the wind direction! I set out from Hexham last week planning to do 90 miles back home to Thirsk via Stanhope. After 50 miles battling a ~20mph head wind I knew I wouldn't make it so headed into Darlington and cut it short. I've done a couple of hilly 100s without a problem, but not into a constant headwind.
Take your time and enjoy it - good luck!

I was just wondering what peoples opinion was, i have taken a day off work tomorrow and was going to go for my biggest ride yet 75 miles riding from consett to hartside pass and back, but then thought why dont i just go for the big one and go to penrith and back for the big 100,now i have only been riding a few months, my biggest ride is 50 miles but that was on a flat course,if i take the right food and drinks do you think i could do this or am i biting off a bit too much i average aout 15mph but have all day to do this, would i notice a big difference between the 75 and 100 cheers

You will struggle to do 75 miles tomorrow in the wind IMO( forecast looks very windy), Ive done 4 or 5 100 plus runs this year but would never consider doing them when the winds strong.

Weather's rubbish this end at the moment, if that makes a difference.
As for bail out options - if you follow the Hadrian's Cycle way the Hadrian wall bus will let you on with your bike - might be useful to cut out a couple of the hills at least.

Having just done my first century over a much flatter route than you're suggesting, I'd suggest that going straight from 50 to 100 miles may be a bit too big a jump.

In my case I increased the mileage over 3 rides. 52 to the metric century was easy. 62 to 75 miles was fairly easy. 75 to 100 miles was harder than I expected and I seriously considered abandoning it. Glad I didn't though.^_^

It'll be hilly, but If you live and ride in and around Consett, you're probably big used to big hills. Good luck.

Think the weather will stop you tomorrow - over Hartside (1900ft) and back up is asking a lot - think the idea of going to Hartside then heading to Hadrian's way would be more appealing. Whichever - I'm impressed if you can do it!
I'm just coming off a couple of stages of the TDF (tour de fenham) and doing the medium Virgin cyclone this weekend. :becool:
