Got some Schwalbe Marathon Winter spiked tyres from Bike24 in the end.
Only 6km on them so far (down to 5-a-side football) but the rolling resistance isn't too bad when you put 80psi in them (85psi max). They claim they need to be "run in" for 40km on hard-top roads so I'll be using them for the commute tomorrow as it may still be a bit icy at 8am.
Mounted them on my rarely ever used hack bike (didn't used it at all in 2008) which is a bit of a luxury. I'll be keeping an eye out for some cheapo hybrid wheels that I can move them to and put the normal semi-slicks back on the original wheels.
