Getting faster, very slowly
Bit of a mouthful, but has anyone seen or tried a Wilier Triestina Weekend Bassano?
It has 105/Tiagra goupset and decent Shimano wheels and it takes racks and mudguards.
I'm thinking of getting one as an all purpose allrounder to along with my road bike.
I currently commute on a Sturmy 3 speed Surly Crosscheck and it's great, but figured that the Bassano would do the same job but would have the added advantage of being suitable for touring as well as winter bike duties. The review in Cycling Plus commuting supplement said it could be used for audaxes or sportives as well.
Other benefits:
1. I prefer flat bars for my London cummute (I damaged the fingers of my left hand some years ago and the flats are easier on them when there's lots of stopping and starting.)
2. It's a more upright position with the stem up, but it can be flipped over to make it racier. I'm 55 and the more upright position would be helpful if touring.
3. It's pretty light for an allrounder, at 9.4Kgs
It costs around a grand, but the main advantage is it could allow me to stick to only having two bikes, in theory at least!

Takes front and rear mudguards.
The Surly/Sturmy isn't much cop as a roadie winter bike - it's pretty heavy (fine in town) and not much cop with big hills.

Aargh, Wilier haven't sent enough of these to the UK apparently, they've sold out straight away and there might not be any more this year!!!
Nightmare - you know what it's like when you've set your heart on a bike!
