Crown is evil. Dulux every time for me.
I have tried a few wicky wickes paints and varnishes and they are OK. My only thought is that they are almost as expensive as the brand paints.

was given a piece of good advice on paint. Feel the weight of the can - the heavy one is the high quality one (for the same volume obviously!). The more titanium oxide (pigment), the heavier the emulsion will be - and you want to pay for pigment rather than water.

This hint was given by an ex-ICI industrial chemist - who was at that point a paint developer - though subsequently went on to be a beer chemist, which sounds rather more fun.

Funnily enough I'm a contractor for what was ICI, and a good friend of mine's dad is a fermentation reader.

Beat that.
