Why wouldn't you wear a helmet

I don't want to "like" the whole comment, but the above phrase is lovely!

You will struggle to find people on here who will tell you not to wear one. There is no one (despite mickle's claims) that is 'anti-helmet'.
As I've written before, I have read on another site someone who was "anti-helmet" for road riding on the grounds that they seem to encourage some people to ride like pro racers, which simply isn't appropriate or safe on open public roads/tracks and with the increasing number of people on bikes, they could well crash into others (whereas when there were fewer of us, such idiots were far more likely to take themselves out without involving anyone else). I've some sympathy with that view, but I won't go so far as to challenge helmet-wearers unless they challenge me.

Yeah, and having had friends angrily have a go at me for not wearing a helmet on the 1 mile I cycle to work from my car, it gets a little tiresome and perhaps occasionally react a bit quickly.
As a result of today's strange weather, I was wearing a rain hat on the way in, but rode bare-headed home because the rain hat isn't nice when it's not being cooled by rain and I forgot to take another cap with me. It was exhilarating so I suspect your friends are jealous. (I probably don't do it often, because having to watch out for branches and duck is tedious - and that and road rash protection are part of why I wear a cap.)

I'm not sure that's the case when you look at these threads, even at best

I doubt it, and even then this a cycling forum with an entire sub-forum devoted to helmet and headphone discussions which somewhat concentrates it....

When I'm sat in an Indian restaurant with 'friends' having a go at me after my fiance points out I don't wear a helmet for a short ride I'm somewhat outnumbered, rather than in a place where a bunch of other people take it a lot further than I do and are able to come out with a lot of other reasons why.

I guess my comments could be summed up with 'get over it'.

As interesting as your Indian restaurant anecdote is, I'm not sure what it has to do with my original post, which correct s someone who says "no mocking takes place"

And what is it Your advising me to "get over" ?

Mocking? FFS, there sure are some precious flowers around, there's barely even been a bit of gentle leg pulling. I'm assuming telling non helmet wearers that their choice will lead to them being scraped up off the road, or that they'll end up spending their lives in a wheelchair, or they'll be leaving wives widowed and children fatherless*, or they'll be eating through a straw or that they're organ donors is ok though?

*or whatever applies

Get over whether or not you're being mocked? ...and maybe think of reasons why you wouldn't wear a helmet... that is after all, what this thread is about.
Nobody has complained about being mocked, I'lll try again, I was responding to a post that said mocking didn't take place, I said it did, do you agree it takes place?

This would be a good reply if someone had complained of mocking, since they haven't I'm not sure what value it has

Well a very quick look at your recent posts in this thread and you have used the word mocking or mocked at least 12 times, you appear to have a bee in your bonnet about something.

Yes, someone saying it didn't take place, I simply corrected them and many posters jumped on it, you included.

Pictures of thudgaurds, tin foil hats and numerous anecdotes of banging head when in kitchens should I therefore wear a helmet etc.

No mocking of helmet wearers?

Oh I see, my error, and there's me thinking they were taking the p1ss

Of course they were just being insightful! FFS

Ben, this may explain some mocking, but often it appears to me posters are asked for their reasons why they wear a helmet. When they answer honestly they are often also mocked.

Some may not agree with their reasoning or even think it's plausible but it's their right to have that view, isn't that pro choice, choice to wear one as well as not to?

Sorry, it's mocking, dress it up as much as you like, it's mocking

Couldn't be bothered with the rest of them, but just to check, you're not complaining, right?

Your correct, and I've said so numerous times.

You could have also multi quoted the questions/posts I was responding too to ensure a balanced view

If you have no issue with mocking why would you deny it takes place?

Ah ok, you're not complaining, you're just being indignant on somebody elses behalf?
Not at all, I was correcting not a poster when they said mocking didn't take place, I have to question why you would have such an issue with me pointing out it clearly does exist?

Wafer, why the facepalm?

You seem to have taken exception to me correcting someone who says mocking doesn't take place??? Why would that upset you or cause you to get funny with me on here??

Anyway, how's the cycling down your way? I often work down there and was thinking of taking my road bike, any good rides you can suggest?
