Get your refund - should be in time for the warmer weather, then try again. Local shop, Halfords even, one of the good online shops but if you're new to it best at the local bike shop.

Now to put you off .....

Once you get into cycling you need to budget for all the bike kit you'll want, the second bikes for you and your wife (at least twice as expensive as the first), the clothing, the maintenance where you're using them too much, etc. etc................

Yes, it's that addictive.

As already stated get a refund and go elsewhere.

I'm not a fan of Halfords, but just got myself a new Carrera from there. My old bike was also a Carrera from Halfords and that's had years of abuse and not gave me any trouble. Some of Halfords bikes are good and well priced, its their staff who may not be up to scratch.

I've been trying to buy a bike for about 6 weeks. I'm only just over 5ft and want a trad style bike. But to get one in my size isn't easy, unless I have almost 700 quid to spend, which I don't. I am mad keen to get into cycling.
Anyway, don't give up. I'm not going to !

Try something like this.
Kids' bikes, but very high quality and perfectly acceptable for adults too.

Wow, this is a friendly forum thank’s very much for all the good wishes and advice.

After canceling my order, I received a telephone call from Discover Cycling to apologise for their service. I am pleased to report that I have received my refund from them.

Thank’s again for all the advice, especially about the exercise bike!

What town do you live in/near? I'm sure there'll be someone here who lives in the area and will be able to recommend a local shop.

Much better to go to a shop, chat to someone friendly and knowledgable who can advise on the best type of bike for you, and let you have test rides, than fretting over uncertainties online.
