Why do presto valves exist?

I use Michelin tubes which are have unthreaded bodies anyway. In the past I have had a number of Continental tubes fail at the valve/tube junction, even with the nut in place. Perhaps it is a manufacturing issue more than anything. Schrader valves seem to manage without a retaining nut too.

Try some with Duplop/Woods valve.

Are you using alonger than normal valve.Dont forget they come in various lengths for various rim depths.Along valve on a shallow rim can be very flexible.

The securing nut has a spacer that allows Presta valve use in Schraeder rims

I find without using the nut i get a rattle noise so i generally put the nut on when i don't drop it and lose the thing.

Use a pump with a hose - there's far less wiggling then:-

Yip I go with that too; I've never had them on my Kinesis and its now over 21,000 miles old and I've never had a problem (there at least ). It allows for a faster tube change in the event of an unscheduled deflation.
