Clothing? I thought you regarded that as optional, or have I misunderstood your sig?
^_^ Unfortunately it's not really a practicable option in this country, though I have done a few WNBR's. There is also more to naturism than nudity.
I can see how you might think this but no it's the main road out of town there isn't any shops or crowds of people . The woman was stud in the drive way to the golf club which is the only thing on that side of the road . I was wearing a hi vis wind proof jacket and there was very little trafic on the road i fail to see how he could have missed me . as I said he drew along side of me then turned in I have no doubt this was deliberate
It is still possible, last Nov I was riding up a road about 5pm, High Vis, bright Cree T6 light, and still got knocked off my bike, the woman was distracted having just left her nan's who was dying of cancer, no real harm done other than a broken bottle carrier which she paid for.

Car drivers show me a lot more respect when I'm on a bike than when I'm driving. Somebody deliberately nudged my bumper this morning and then sped off. They wouldn't risk doing that sort of thing to a cylist.

I've only been cycling again for a month, after stopping as a teenager, and have been fairly confident, but have had two incidents with motorists. First was on a traffic-light controlled, narrow right turn - other car was miles behind when I got into position, then revved his engine as he was waiting behind me, tried to overtake me on the bend, then drove within a foot of me to overtake. Earlier today on a smallish roundabout, again I got into position early to go straight on, car tried to overtake me on the roundabout, then beeped aggressively at me all up the road.

Trouble is in both cases, they were a long way behind when I started the manoeuvre so I had no idea how they were going to react to me. My confidence is shot again now. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for how to deal with idiots? I'd be happy to move out their way if I knew they were idiots, it's just I seem to discover too late.

I just hold my ground if positioned correctly, just try and ignore anything other than anything that puts your safety at risk as @Chris S says most wont risk it. Don't take much notice of me though, I have been known to ride sections of the A1 north of Doncaster, got piped at too the idiots dont they know its a dual carriage way open to all traffic.

Did all those need replacing out of simply wear and tear, or some out of choice?

How do you wear out handlebars, etc?

Thanks, think a massive public education campaign wouldn't go amiss!

I agree, at least in my knowledge, I have had a friend and former member of my Parish struck on purpose by the passenger of a pickup truck, by using the door. Many people in my acquaintance have had things thrown at them from vehicles. I have not, so far. But I also look like the sort of fellow who might tear a wheel off your car. But for the others, I think a public education campaign, backed up by legislation, cannot hurt. On either side of the pond. We had the good fortune to have a good Transportation Secretary, a Mr Ray Lahood, from my neck of the woods near Peoria. Did a lot for cyclists.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Life is just like that, (Even on line there will be 10% of people who have not been properly socialized as children, and don't play nice with others)
Cheers,
i put mine down to my mum dieing when i was 10 and spending a fair while trying to keep the house together by shopping , cleaning , keeping rest of family morale up till my dad could get over his grief enough to think about a new "mum" for 3 young kids and going back to work.My social skills never recovered .

I don't think it's a hate thing.
These people just get off upsetting others. They would drive through a puddle to soak a pedestrian for kicks. They do it knowing they can make a quick getaway from the protection of their car. Without the car they haven't the guts to do anything.
It's the sort of person they are.
