Drivers who get get cross about manically blinky lights will maintain it is overkill and too distracting.........the ones that drive you off the road will claim that they couldn't see you because you didn't have an outrageously blinky light!

It's kind of difficult to really win this situation. Maybe have a blinky but angle it down so it's not TOO distracting?

I live in the country and the lanes can be lethal - you get one car tear-&rsing the other way and you're in trouble. I use the 'blinky' light just as the light is fading so that I stand out a bit, but it's light enough out that cars don't get blinded. Soon as it's dusk/dark,. full lights on...

Never had a complaint about my two very bright [3AAA] blinky front lights which are angled down, but a motorist did once moan about my blinky back light when stuck behind me in a queue.
To be fair, the whole interior of his car was lighting up with each flash.

at least they can't say they didn't see you

They blink to help drivers become aware of you as as small, slow and vulnerable road user, but if they distract the drivers too much and / or iritate them, you are potentially becomming a bigger hazzard. Remember it's not about you on the road, it's about everyone else so consider every participants perspective when making such decisions.

Your lights may be to strong if they are strong and you have a couple then put it on constant if you have one weak light then just wave back at them.

I nearly always use a blinker in daytime but at night I will use a steady light as well. Night time blink-only lights can alternate dazzle with complete blindness but a constant light plus a blinking one doesn't produce the same dazzle-blackness effect for other road users IMO.

FWIW, it runs only on 2 AAA batteries so hardly can be "blinding" motorists??

Not correct with LED lamps.

I loathe flashing white lights, even more when on the bike than when driving. They are offputting when close and delay being seen when at a distance, and are intensely annoying.

A look at the research carried out by the German government would be enough to convince you not to use them. Ever.
