Why do motorists get annoyed when...

... you use a blinky white front light?

Just observed that motorists get irate often gesticulating to me when I'm riding. Is this a common occurrence, something that I have to ignore, or just something that's part of the biking experience.

Would appreciate your views on this.

Possibly blinding them depending on the brightness.

If you only have a single front light, put it on constant and aim it such that it doesn't blind oncoming traffic.

I just find them un necessary and as a cyclist and a motorist very off putting.

This is my view too.

FWIW, it runs only on 2 AAA batteries so hardly can be "blinding" motorists??

I often find myself blinded by the Xenon lights on BMWs and SUVs but how come that's different to using 2AAA battery light? Surely it's something against cyclists IMO.

Most do mate tbh but an led light seems to pack a mean punch when its pointing direct to your eyes. Even from a distance.

try looking directly at your light yourself. They are brighter then you think. As said, aim the light down a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion but wouldn't that beat the point of having a blinky if its facing the ground? Somehow when the light is on constant nobody seems to be bothered.

You don't have to be looking directly into a light (flashing or constant) to still be able to see it!
