White Gold Allergy...

...anyone had one from White Gold? I wanted to buy my nearest and dearest some white gold jewellery but a colleague has said that his wife got a nasty rash (ooh err) from it. Anyone got any experience with this?

That would be unusual. My wife is allergic ( or so she says) to any jewellery made with metals other than high grade silver and gold (including white gold). She comes up in a rash. But white gold she is fine with. I'd say it was uncommon and more likely to happen with something of a low gold mix or plate. Or something being described as gold that isn't.

I am allergic to nickel, and any low-carat gold jewellery tends to have the same effect (a weeping rash). I've found that earring backs tend to be really bad culprits for this.
However, I've had a big lump of white gold in my mouth for 9 years with no ill-effects.

If it's nickel being used, some folk have an allergy to that.

My wedding ring is white gold & I have no problems with it at all.
