If you buy the Aldi mamia ones then I agree with you 100%, but the Huggies ones work well enough.

Fizik white bar tape is the one you want. Wipes clean, use white spirit to clean and it comes up like new. The bar tape had been on the bike 14 months when I took this photo

Using white spirit also has the benefit of being flammable, so you can light your bars if your hands get cold in winter.

Have to say the white bar tape on my bike looked awesome when new.
It's starting to show some signs of grubbiness now. I pride myself on presenting my bike in pristine condition and now feel the tape is starting to let it down.

I have a Defy Advanced in white and black. The saddle is white and so far remains unmarked.

Not intending on changing my saddle so presume the rules maintain I keep the matching bar tape.
Would it be better to retake with new or is their something wonderful out there that will revive my tape to its former splendour?
Baby wipes just don't seem to be cutting the grime anymore.

It is indeed Awesome, but no it's not practical.

Have a look a Cinelli bar tape for similarly Awesome but more-able-to-hide-the-stains patterned tape.
