I run with Durano Pluses. 700x25c. they come in 2 versions, folded and beaded. The folded version is lighter, but not as easy to fit first time around. Fairy visits wise, so far only hawthorn thorns have gotten through them. They are grippier in wet weather, fantastic on ice but they are slower and offer more rolling resistance. If however you are not too bothered about being the fastest on the road, and want something that is almost 'fit & forget' (I say almost because I have had 1 fairy visit in the 15 months they have been on the bike and around 4,500 miles and you will need to top up pressures periodically) then they are great.
I have also used Armadillo's in the past, but not on a road bike - they were also stunningly good for fairy visits - my only flat being when the inner tube rubber perished after 4-5 years use on the same bike.
