Which type of brake do you favour?

I don't have a choice as I only ride proper bikes - caliper brakes it is then

+1 same here and the day I see a proper road bike with anything else I will cry

I've never tried no. 12 on RL's list

Whenever I've got to a stage where I feel my brakes aren't going to stop me its straight to no.13

I've used all of the brakes mentioned and I prefer mechanical discs.

Hydraulic discs are the strongest but can be a pain to maintain - can't put bike upside down as they get air in them.

V brakes are pretty good except in wet/wintery weather

Cantis are the only realistic option on a cross bike, but then you don't wanna do too much braking if you want to do well in your race


Seriously though, decent cantis such as the Avid Shorty are not all that bad, both in terms of performance and adjustment.
