I don't think the Pendle would be a bad choice. It's a little bigger than my barley, but the same price and practically the same weight. Only difference is the missing D-rings, which I used with toe straps to give myself a little extra carrying space - but
@PMarkey has clearly found a way to do that.
I use and love an SQR with my bag, which is fully quick release. But it's also quite heavy, and adds another £30 to the cost.
Hmm, lets see what I take on a 600km audax.
- Clothes
- Layers that I'm wearing at the start, and will put on again at night
- Merino Leggins
- Merino hoody
- Arm warmers/bolero - yes, I have a cycling bolero top. 2 in fact!
- Gilet
- Full finger gloves
- buff - or two!
- Spare socks
- rain jacket
- if rain is likely, my aldi/lidl rainlegs copy.
- I don't bring this, but some people bring a second pair of shorts.
- underpants for sleeping in (let the shorts breath for an hour or 2)
- Tools etc
- Multitool
- Tyre Levers
- 2 tubes
- Patch kit
- Zip ties for emergency repairs
- quick links for chain repairs
- Lights
- Dynamo light or other light that can last all night
- Back up/supplemental front light
- 2 rear lights
- spare batteries
- (I don't do this) head torch for reading route sheet at night.
- Other
- Emergency Bivvy Bag. Never used it. Never expect to use it.
- Cafe Lock
- Cash/cards
- Food - I eat at controls or cafes, but you need something solid to keep you going at 3am. Sweet carby food doesn't work for me on the roads, so currently experiment with cheese and chorizo. Weird, but I can manage to force it down.
- GPS device (mobile phone in my case)
- Laminated route sheets, bulldog clip to attach to frame. Spare bulldog clip.
- Old phone for emergencies
- External batteries and cables for charging phone
- Edit: Sunscreen - attached to one of the D-Rings
That's nearly everything.
