The A1 north of Morpeth. The A1 is a strange road - it creeps northerly from that there Lundun to the scary wasteland that is Mid Lothian and Edinburrur. Along it's course it is seemingly motorway, dual carriageway, single carriageway, farm track, access route to local hauliers yard, photo studio (all the cameras north of the border) and the rest.

We were up there last week for a couple of days and you’re right it’s a very disconcerting stretch of road.

It’s one of the rare places you get to see this speed limit sign:

Dartford tunnel on M25.
A victim of its own success.
But it’s awful and cost £2.50 each way for the pleasure of using it. And we use it at least twice a week at the moment.

The A282 Dartford Crossing (note, all purpose A road, not part of the M25... technically) is another...

With good reason, it’d be carnage if he took his train on a motorway.

It probably would not be any worse than most eejits in cars and so on though! 😆

The A14 between the M11 and the A1(M) used to be a real pain but it's now pretty smooth. I dislike driving on the M1 and will go out of my way to use the A1 instead, much to Google Map's disgruntlement.

Never been on the A1 near Doncaster travelling southbound from about 7am to 7pm? It’s a two lane carriageway with the volume of traffic more suited to the M1, loads of freight and HGV going to Newark as there are big depots around there.

My most hated road is the M60/M62 going from North East to North West. Always get stuck in endless roadworks!

I'm not sure if it's M5 or M6, but going past Birmingham northbound where there are loads of joins in the road. Feels like you're driving along railway sleepers. And usually very busy, narrow lanes and some comparatively tight bends

M6 I think, I haven't been along there for ages.

I also know a train driver who simply refuses to drive his car on a motorway. They scare him.
I know how he feels. When motorways are quiet I'm ok, but when it's a busy one I just keep in the 'slow' lane doing 60mph at most. If I see the hard shoulder has been bollarded off for miles ahead I have slight panic attacks as that 'place of safety' isn't there if I need to pull over!!

The A82 up the west of Loch Lomond. Narrow, congested and horrible. I don't care how lovely the scenery might be, it's an awful stretch of road.

I used to drive the A82 at least once a month from Tyndrum south mostly but sometimes heading north through Glencoe for Corran ferry. The outward trip was usually at about five in the morning which was not too bad but if returning the same day with a ferry deadline it was not nice as I had often done about 300 miles and just wanted to get home.

Needs variable speed limit signs especially on the Doncaster bypass.
