:tongue:Hi all Im after some advice , I have a MTB, and recent sold by hybrid as I felt it was nt fast enough. So after a visit to one of my nearesy cycle shops I discused my dilema a sports hybrid or Road Bike? After deciding on the later and with a limited budjet,
i have at present the following models to decide on the right one, Giant Defy 3 or 3.5,Trek 1.2, Specialized Allez Sport or the Olrbea not sure on model but price 645 which just exceeds budjet. I have only test rien Trek due to weather conditions & await any advice

I love your edit....what did you change coz there's a lot more to have a go at!

I would go down to somewhere like Evans (they are good for test rides) and try as many as possible...pick one of their more specialist road bike shops such as the one in Waterloo (sorry but I dont know where you're based)

Hi ricardo,

The bikes that you mention are all very similar. (not too surprising as they al cost about the same.) I would advise you to try as many as you can and i think that you will find one sticks out and is right for you. Getting the right size is the most important thing and most bike shops will help you with this. (if they dont appear interested in what size you need - walk away).

I was in your position some years ago. I went for the Allez. Never regretted it for one second. But they are all good bikes.

Good luck

andy

The best deal you will get is to get the best bike for you. Decide on the bike first then hunt down the best deal on it.

I know specialized are good kit but i personally dont like the curved top tube

I didn't like the curved tube on the Allez until I saw it in the flesh. Not overly keen on the 2010 colours though. Me, I'm in a similar position but intend to buy from the best LBS, the bikes are similar enough that customer service will win out.

when I was test riding, I didnt like the reach on the specializeds, much preferring treks...ending up getting a planet X which I tried in Croydon...

definitely worth getting on a few

Hi, I've got the specialized allez 16 2010, cracking bike

I have the Allez 24 and really like it. As others have said have a sit on them - I found Specialized a more comfortable fit for me compared to the Trek, horses for courses.

which road bike

for last 10+ years have used an original marin bear valley for every kind of cycling i do , a weeks solid riding arond and across the isle of mull , sunday morning 30+ wake up rides before traffic starts and now doing 4 x 1.5 mile commutes a day . have also started rescuing cheap 70/80 racing bikes from tip and local freecycle sites , most i have spent so far is £15 and have used them all for commutes and then flogged them after a few months on fleabay etc etc , makes for cheap cycling .
