Quite close to getting a new bike............comfort being a key factor.
Looking at the Specialized Roubaix the shop I visited today has these 2 options...........
1) An SL4 sports @ £1400. It has MOSTLY 105s. The brakes and wheels are Axis (don't know them). The
chain-set is Gossamer (don't know them)
2) Last years SL4 which is lower spec components but discounted to £950.00 so.............for an extra £400.00 I could upgrade to full Ultegra (including the chain-set).
WHEELS..........I think they are both lower end Axis (not certain).
Any thoughts ???

Didn't you just have a comfortable ride onyour current bike?

I wouldn't have either as they say Specialized on the frame ;) it might be a decent frame but the kit is generally poor for the money

But go ride yourself and see what you think

Is Ultegra a "poor" groupset?

I think and I may be wrong but the op is suggesting getting the group set as an additional purchase (as in not on the bike) the Spesh hater does have a point some of the groupo on the bikes are lower end (I do find that with most manufacturers though). The frames inc lifetime warranty though are worth it imo.

I know. Butt a high proportion of the cost is the frameset itself.
I agree about things like the wheels.

I just did a 51 miler with a nice comfy 'bum'...........shoulders & neck were on fire though. Not sure if that is the geometry or me being an old fart.
They have offered to loan me one for 4 days (subject to the manager's OK) so I am taking them up on that-I will do the same 51 miler and see how I am.
Nothing is 'cast in stone' but if the test ride is positive I will need to decide.

^^this but I'd ignore the rest Spesh hating should be a crime.:becool:

I'd also add that the new (if it's still new) 105 11speed is a more than capable group set. I'd save the money and upgrade the wheels as for me the axis wheels I've tried are pretty poo. Solid and reliable but poo.
Dave is an OMIL I think so specialized would be spot on as a brand ;)
