Hi all,

This is my first post! I've been perusing for a while and have gleaned some great information from the site, I thought I'd jump in with a What Bike? thread as a starter -

I'm currently using a specialized "light" mountain bike with front suspension and wide(ish) tyres - and I'd now like to go a bit further and upgrade to a flat bar road bike - I've been perusing the forums / internet in general and have homed in on the following (I'm too much of big girls blouse for dropped handle bars!!)

1. Specialised Sirrus Comp or Expert - £700~900

2. Ridgeback Flight 03 ~ £900

3. Trek 7.5 FX disc ~ £800

I will be using the bike mainly (90%) on roads - hopefully commuting approx. 25 miles a day 2 or 3 times a week. I'm 6ft 5" and not the fittest (!) I've ever been - hence the hope to use the bike more.

Any suggestions / opinions on my choices - my favourite so far is the Ridgeback with hyd disc brakes - and will be comparing both the Trek and Ridgeback later this evening at my local bike shop.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,
I bought a second-hand Ridgeback Flight 04 (like the 03 but with hub gears) 18 months ago and it has been fast, sturdy enough for tow-paths etc and a joy to ride around town. The discs are excellent. Can't really compare it to the others you mention as I haven't ridden them.

Having said all that, I'd swap it for a dropped bar surly cross-check.
