Hi folks,
Right, there are a couple of items i still need to get one of which is a decent lock. Now i am aware of weight issues, however i will be using a rucksack rather than panniers or any frame clip which comes with any lock i get.
I have been looking at the Krypotonite series of D locks, particularly the ones with the additional cable which you can run through the wheels. Anyone use any of these and are the cheaper ones up to the job? Any other options people can recommend? The bike will in all probability will be parked in an underground car park whilst at work.

id say what ure looking at is fairly good ,,sounds like the one your looking at ,,its a good deterrent but obv you can get better ,,but at that pricepoint its pretty good ,moving up the range (fahgedaboutit )is better ,,it depends on how much u want to spend ,BUT ,,locking it up well can make it harder to steal ,,you pay yer money

thanks for that Jim, that helps and the video link to the last link you posted was interesting to say the least. Yes i agree a determined thief will have the bike.......but i am not going to make it easy for them
Funny enough the lock you use was one of the ones i was looking at, i might well go a bit higher security wise.....i think at least 5% of the bikes value has got to be worth it!

i think the nyc one is prob about as good as it gets ,,i dont think theres any further benefit to paying more than that

agreed, anything over that might as well get two for the price of a more expensive one, dont think time wise there is any advantage other than going for two locks:thumbsup:

At work I have a Kryptonite NY Standard D lock and an Autolock motorcycle chain which I leave attached to the racks at work as both are pretty heavy. If I know I'm going to the pub or whatever afer work I'll either take the D lock with me, or I've got a great little magnum mini D lock from Halfords with a cable. It was about £55 I think and it's excellent. It's a snug fit on a road bike and you need to lock it to a sheffield stand but highly recommend it.

Quick question to the other Granit owners - my seems to be getting a bit more difficult to open, sticky if you will - gave me a bit of fright the first time. Is this normal - the bike has been left in the rain but not for more than a hour. Seems to be a bit of rust on the ends - is it ok to loosen up the mechanism with some WD40?

Hi,
no the bike isn't insured yet as i have another 8 weeks towait for delivery:rolleyes:. Just getting bits and pieces together. I will check my home policy and see if i need to take out separate insurance.
Yes bike radar has plenty of reviews.....but it is nice to hear what "real" users think

the three locks quoted all look good and fit for purpose thanks folks, i will sort one of these next payday.

I give mine a squirt with GT85 every so often and it doesn't seem to have done the lock any harm.
