Used to read Cycling + but finances dictated I cancel it, I could afford it again but I'm gathering more info from the web.

I have a stack of Bicycling magazines on the coffee table in my living room. I am not sure where they came from, something I bought somewhere probably included a free subscription. I don't read them. The one on the top of the stack has a big picture of Lance's face on it with "THE TRUTH HURTS" written under it. Having the internet allows me to read about most anything I want to...if I can spell it.
I guess if I were to move the stack of magazines into the bathroom I might be more likely to read them.

I get Cycling Active - subscribed for 2 years as was half price. Not sure I'll renew unless I can get a required goodie. Gets a bit samey to be honest, and not being much of a magazine person, I only skim read it most months

Been subscribed to cycling plus for about 18 months. I initially read it very quickly and couldn't wait for the next one to come in. Now the next one often arrives before I have finished the last one. It may be time to cancel. I like it, particularly some of the reviews, but I must admit it is getting very samey.

Thanks for all your replies, most are saying either cycling plus or active, of the two is one more aimed at your higher end cyclist and the other more towards you average enthusiast or do they both cover the same ground?

Same can be said of any specialist type magazine, even photography it changes over time, though there is always something to learn in photoshop.

You're obviously very good with Photoshop Nigel. Wish I had your expertise and patience for post processing. Afraid I struggle with it. Just ordered a Nikon Coolpix P7700 which I might try carrying on the bike sometimes.

I have been getting my mates Cycling Plus hand-me-downs! My Son bought me a subscription for Cycle Active magazine for Christmas so I'll pass mine on to my Buddy once I have read them! As said earlier, Plus seems a bit more high-end of the market where as Active covers more of the budgety type gear but also the more pricey stuff too!

I perhaps would go that far Pat, but a lot of hours practise learning how to do the same thing several different ways. To be honest cycling is easy compared to it, I am just not very good at cycling (though better than I was), even bike maintenance is pretty straight forward, (again not that I am very skilled in it, but I can strip and rebuild my bike should need be). The thing to remember in p.s. is not to make massive changes in one go, step at a time.

Cycling plus is much higher end although Ca will have multi '000s bikes
Get both, see which you prefer. CA is more populist and as a woman leisure cyclist, feel it addresses my needs better. I have no interest in reading about high end components and the latest super pants from assos!!

I used to get them all (all the cycling, running and triathlon ones), when I lived in the UK - or at least everything my nearest branch of WHSmith stocked.

I was a bus driver, and always wanted a magazine to hand for my breaks and short stops here and there, and if you broke down you could be waiting an hour or so for someone to get out to you. A bit of a nightmare if you didn't have something to read. I'm a woman, but I like looking at the bling in Cycling Plus as much as the blokes do. There's nothing wrong with a bit of window shopping.

Now I'm in Spain, I don't read any of them. Even if you can get them here, the Europe subscriptions cost a bloody fortune.

I've been buying Outdoor Fitness recently, really enjoy it. It makes a nice change from cycle only mags which I find are getting a bit boring, same old thing each month. Have bought Cycling Plus almost since the beginning and more recently Cycling Active, but can't afford them all.

Not much to do with fitness (although I remember one article comparing different riding types to fitness required) but bike magazine is like this. Always the same sportsbikes and various measurements of performance. I never tried any cycling magazines but I imagine they would be going all ape over the latest carbon fibre mush and the most expensive tyre valve caps etc. Are there any popular ones that dont?

Cycling Active occasionally to drool over all of the bikes, that I will never be able to afford.

Cycle Sport monthly (Christmas Gift) so that I can read about all of the pros and feel useless and inadequate.
