Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a new cassette (shimano, road). Due to various components on my bike being replaced at different times, i've got a bit of a miss-match going on! I have a 105 rear derailleur and a tiagra on the front. I presume that either 105 or tiagra would be fine when it comes to buying a new one? Or does it have to be specific to the rear derailleur?

Thanks again!

Either should do Calum as long as it's the right speed, and for ease of fitting a similar range to the one you have now

Any old cassette will be fine so long as it as the correct number of cogs, and the rear derailleur is capable of handling the largest cog (cage length). You will need to get a cassette that is compatible with your hub (I am guessing Shimano) apart from that its just cost and weight and gear spacing that will determine your choice.

Thanks guys that's really helpful. Looking at Wiggle, i can get 105 for about £23 and tiagra for about £15. - I'd be surprised if i'd notice the difference tbh.

Blimey, SRAM cassettes are a bit pricey! What do they have that Shimano cassettes don't have?

I agree with Fossyant, SRAM are much better than Shimano cassettes (and everything else for that matter but we won't go there)!

Also try Ribble for parts Calum and definitely change the chain as well...I'd go for a KMC personally. With two weeks off it's one job I have tomorrow doing just this, among other things.
